Project Payment Structures

Every project is billed using one of three structures. We'll choose the right one together based on scope, timeline, and cash-flow preference — and lock it into your project agreement before work starts.

Option 1 — Two-Payment (50 / 50)

The standard structure for most small and mid-size projects.

50%
Deposit to begin

Due before work starts. Secures your spot and covers initial design and development phases.

50%
On completion

Due when the project is approved and ready for launch. Full site access transferred on receipt.

Option 2 — Three Milestones (30 / 30 / 40)

Recommended for larger projects, longer timelines, or engagements where scope evolves in phases.

30%
Deposit to begin

Due before work starts. Reserves the project and covers discovery, planning, and initial design.

30%
Mid-project

Due at the agreed-upon midpoint milestone — typically when design is approved and development is underway.

40%
On completion

Due at launch. Full site access, source files, and handoff materials transferred on receipt.

Option 3 — Hourly / Time & Materials

Best for ongoing or scope-flexible work, retainers, and small tickets.

$75/hr
Base hourly rate

All work tracked to the quarter-hour. Itemized on every invoice so you see exactly what was done.

Bi-weekly
Invoice cadence

Invoiced every two weeks for the hours logged. Payment is due within 7 days of the invoice date.

🌺 Hawaii GET Tax (4.712%) is added to every invoice regardless of payment structure or client location. Tax is itemized as a separate line.

🌺

Hawaii GET Tax (4.712%)

Island Sun Design LLC is based in Hilo, Hawaii. Per state law, Hawaii General Excise Tax (4.712%) is added to all invoices regardless of where the client is located. The tax line will be itemized on every invoice.

Hourly & Retainer Work

Hourly and time-and-materials work is billed bi-weekly at $75/hr. Retainer agreements for ongoing development are billed at the start of each period. Payment is due within 7 days of the invoice date.

⏱️

Invoices & Due Dates

All invoices are sent via email and are due within 14 days of receipt unless otherwise agreed in writing. Late payments may result in work being paused until the balance is cleared.

Refund Policy

Deposits are non-refundable once work has begun. If a project is cancelled before work starts, deposits may be refunded at Ryan's discretion. Completed work is non-refundable. See the Policies page for full details.
