Small Business Website Design

A Website That Works as Hard as You Do

Your website is your hardest-working employee — available 24/7, first impression for every new customer. I build sites that load fast, look great, and are built to be found in search.

Build Approaches

The Right Build for Your Budget and Goals

Not every business needs the same kind of website. I'll recommend the approach that fits your situation — and be honest about the trade-offs of each.

✍️

Hand-Coded Websites

Pure HTML, CSS, PHP — no CMS layer. The fastest, leanest possible sites. Best when performance is the top priority and the content structure is relatively fixed.

🧩

WordPress + Page Builder

Elementor, Avada/Fusion Builder, Divi, or WPBakery give you a flexible, visually editable website on a proven platform. You can update your own content easily — no developer needed for everyday changes.

WordPress Block Editor

Gutenberg-first builds using WordPress's native block editor. Clean, fast, and native to WordPress — the direction the platform is heading long-term.

WooCommerce Stores

Need to sell products or services online? I build complete WooCommerce stores as part of website projects — products, payments, shipping, and all.

Website Redesigns

Already have a site that's outdated, slow, or just not converting? I redesign from scratch — keeping your SEO equity and content while replacing everything that isn't working.

🚚

Platform Migrations

Moving from Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy Website Builder, or another platform to a real WordPress site — with proper redirects so you don't lose your search rankings.

What Every Site Includes

Not Just a Pretty Design

Design is the first thing people see — but it's what happens under the hood that determines whether your site actually works for your business. Here's what's standard in every website I build.

1

Discovery & Strategy

We define your goals, audience, and key conversion actions before any design begins — so the site is built around business outcomes, not just looks.

2

Design Mockup & Approval

You see a full visual mockup of your site before a single line of code is written. Revisions included — nothing goes to build without your sign-off.

3

Development & Content Entry

Site is built and your content — text, images, pages — is entered. You don't receive a shell to fill yourself.

4

Testing & Optimization

Mobile responsiveness, cross-browser testing, page speed, Core Web Vitals, and SEO checks — all before launch.

5

Launch & Handoff

DNS cutover, SSL verification, Google Search Console submission, and a walkthrough of how to manage your own content.

Designed from the smallest screen up — not shrunken down from desktop as an afterthought.

🔍

SEO Foundations

Title tags, meta descriptions, Open Graph, schema markup, sitemap — built in from the start.

🔒

SSL + Security

HTTPS, security headers, brute-force protection, and daily backups — every site, every time.

✏️

Self-Manageable

You'll know how to update your own content after the launch walkthrough. No monthly retainer required just to change a photo.

📊

Analytics Ready

GA4 and Search Console configured so you can measure performance from day one.

FAQ

Common Questions

How much does a small business website cost?

It depends on scope, but most small business websites I build range from $1,500 to $5,000+. Simple brochure sites are at the lower end; sites with e-commerce, custom functionality, or significant content are higher. I'll give you a firm, itemized quote after a brief conversation about your project — no hourly billing surprises.

What platform or builder will you use for my site?

It depends on your goals, budget, and how much you want to manage yourself. I work with pure hand-coded PHP/HTML, and WordPress page builders including Elementor, Avada/Fusion Builder, Divi, and WPBakery — recommending the right approach for each project without bias toward any single tool. The goal is always a fast, maintainable site that fits your workflow.

Do you use AI to build websites?

I use AI tools strategically — for prototyping, content drafts, and exploring approaches faster. Every AI output is reviewed, refined, and production-finished by me. AI doesn't replace experience or judgment; it extends what I can get done efficiently. The quality standard doesn't change regardless of which tools are in the workflow.

How long does a website project take?

Most small business websites take 3–6 weeks from kickoff to launch, depending on complexity and how quickly you provide content and feedback. I'll give you a realistic timeline in your project proposal — not an optimistic one that gets revised later.

What do you need from me to get started?

Your logo files (if you have them), brand colors, any existing content you want to keep, examples of sites you like, and a clear idea of your goals. Don't have some of these? That's fine — we figure it out together in the discovery phase.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

Yes. I offer maintenance plans that cover WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates, security monitoring, and uptime checks. I also do one-off updates and changes on an as-needed basis — no long-term contract required.
